If you've ever wanted to jazz up your golf events with extra contests, such as the famed 'long drive' or the 'closest to pin', this feature is tailored for you. Dive in with me to discover how it all works.

What are Special Contests?

Special contests serve as a unique spice to your regular golf event. Think of them as bonus contests or challenges that can be added on a specific hole. The end game? A dedicated leaderboard just for that contest.

Setting Up a Special Contest

1. Starting Simple: Begin by creating a basic competition. For the purpose of this guide, let’s name it ‘Special Contest’. I've kept it elementary with a simple stroke play game at my local course.

2. Spotting the New Option: On moving forward, you’ll stumble upon the fresh option at the bottom – 'Special Contest'. Though you can incorporate it after event creation, having it all set up in one go can be efficient.

3. Adding Your Contests: On tapping ‘Add Contest’, the app readily presents a contest named 'Long Drive'. Here, you can furnish information about entry rules, ensuring players are fully informed before they make any entries.

   • Two Types to Choose From: 'Timestamp' records the last entrant as the winner, simulating the course marker's nature. 'Measured' enables players to add a specific value, be it distance, shots, or proximity to the hole.

   For the sake of illustration:

   • I’ve selected the ‘Long Drive’ contest with the 'Timestamp' type, set on the first hole.
   • I've also thrown in a 'Closest to the Pin' contest with a 'Measured' type on the second hole. A pro tip – keep the contest name concise (under ten characters) for a tidy leaderboard.

4. Easy Edits: You're not locked in after setting up. By accessing the settings, you can edit or even remove your special contests at will.

Engaging with the Special Contests

On activating your competition and diving into the scorecard (I signed in as Tiger Woods for this demo):

• On the first hole, an option pops up for the 'Long Drive'. Submitting an entry for Tiger was a breeze.
• Moving to the second hole unveils the 'Closest to the Pin' challenge. For instance, I added an entry for Justin Rose with a metric of four.

The Leaderboard Magic

Swiping over to the leaderboard, you'll now find two sections:

1. General Leaderboard: Showcases all the scoring information.
2. Special Contest Leaderboard: Highlights the results of the special contests. The demonstration had Tiger Woods as the long drive leader and Justin Rose leading with his 'Closest to Pin' metric.
